About Linfox
Linfox, Australia’s largest privately-owned logistics company, partnered with Provender in early 2023 to deliver healthier food options to transport and warehouse staff across the country. The aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of workers who often struggle to access nutritious meals due to remote work locations, limited breaks, and the demands of round-the-clock operations. What began as a conversation through the Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds initiative quickly evolved into a high-impact partnership that now spans multiple states and sites.
The Challenge
Linfox employees face unique obstacles to healthy eating: unpredictable schedules, difficulty finding convenient food options, and breaks limited to 30 minutes. For drivers, who are at the highest risk of suffering from obesity, chronic pain, and psychological distress, traditional “truck stop” style food service options weren’t hitting the mark - low quality, poor service, and minimal nutritional value. With 1,000+ staff participating in annual health checks and a focus on initiatives like Mood Food and the Healthy Fox program, Linfox needed a food service partner that could deliver both quality and consistency. Deploying across a decentralised network of sites added complexity, with each requiring buy-in from individual site managers and tailored supply solutions.
The Approach
Provender introduced its GrabNGo Micro Market model and high-tech vending solutions to Linfox sites, starting with a two-machine trial in Essendon, Victoria. With proven success, the rollout expanded to 15 vending machines across 10 sites, and two Micro Markets in Brisbane and Perth. The Micro Markets offer a self-serve convenience store experience within the workplace, with fresh meals, healthy snacks, drinks, and premium coffee available 24/7. In some locations, Linfox subsidised coffee for staff as part of its investment in employee wellbeing. Each site operates under a tailored agreement, with local Provender franchisees managing day-to-day servicing to maintain freshness, minimise waste, and ensure seamless service.
The GrabNGo Micro Market model was developed to meet the needs of employees who often have limited access to quality food and irregular meal breaks. For Linfox drivers in particular, the ability to grab a quick, nutritious meal or coffee during a short break is essential. The on-site, self-service setup offers a practical and consistent solution tailored to their workday.
The Results
The partnership between Provender and Linfox has delivered a dramatic improvement in workplace food options. Sales from Micro Markets have doubled the results of previous vending machines, and in some locations even more than doubling previous sales. The model proved so successful that discussions are now underway to scale to over 100 sites nationally. Key factors behind the success include Provender’s flexibility, fresh product range, and responsive local service.
“There’s no point pushing a healthy lifestyle if it’s unattainable. Provender’s range is extensive, diverse and low-cost so it truly fitted all of our requirements.”
– Lisa Manning, National Manager of Health and Wellbeing, Linfox
Looking ahead, Provender is working on ways to make the same standard of food and drink options available at every Linfox site, no matter the size or location. This includes trialling smart fridges and AI-supported inventory systems to help manage stock more effectively. The focus remains on solving operational challenges and supporting Linfox’s broader health and wellbeing strategy with scalable, site-friendly solutions.
